Raina Telgemeier and Scott McCloud: The Cartoonists Club

Lynn Johnston, creator of For Better or For Worse®, writes:

“I met Raina Telgemeier perhaps 10 years ago. It was at a comic convention and we had been asked to sit on a panel together. I had not seen Raina’s work, but when I had the chance to review Smile, a graphic novel she had just released, I was beyond impressed.

Raina has everything it takes to be an expert illustrator and storyteller. Her unique style and her sensitive topics make her one of the most important graphic novelists of our time. A friend recently sent me this article, in which Raina mentioned me as someone she admired. What a wonderful compliment. I have to say, the feeling is mutual, and I do want to read The Cartoonists Club!

Makayla is bursting with ideas but doesn’t know how to make them into a story. Howard loves to draw, but he struggles to come up with ideas and his dad thinks comics are a waste of time. Lynda constantly draws in her sketchbook but keeps focusing on what she feels are mistakes, and Art simply loves being creative and is excited to try something new. They come together to form The Cartoonists Club, where kids can learn about making comics and use their creativity and imagination for their own storytelling adventures!
